Just started the Yellow Belt course in Tai’s accelerator program. I’ve had it since 3 month but never looked into it. There is just so much information (hundreds of videos) and I’m working through it step by step. Btw. I finished the 67 steps! And it’s been super powerful. My good friends Tanveer keeps thanking me for making him aware of the program. He started to quote Tai too!
When you ask people how you should pick your business destiny, the usual answers are:
- Do what you love
- Do what you are passionate about
It’s somehow true yes, but the devil is in the details. You might not be good in something you love or are passionate about. No one cares if you love playing tennis but aren’t able to hit a ball properly. And surly you won’t make a living that way. Instead, it’s better to simply focus on your strength.
“The greatest mistake in life is to get good at the wrong thing”
Think about it. Statistically you will need over 10.000 hours to become excellent in something. It’s like you are married to it. So better be sure you pick something you like and are good at. Because once you are in it for the long-run, you won’t be able to change easily.
For example look at Bill Gates. He’s great in what he does. Software. But put him into a new industry like restaurants, he would need to start almost from scratch.
Life is short and you might only be able to become excellent in two different industries. It takes time and commitment. If you keep jumping around you will never become excellent in anything.
Again, choose an industry you like and are good at. You can jump around within that industry and create different products and services but don’t jump across industries.
Here are some example industries:
- Agriculture
- Mining
- Construction
- Manufacturing
- Retail
- Transportation
- Information
- Finance
- Real Estate
- Education
- Hospitality
- Accommodation
- Software
- Technologie
- Art
- PR
How to find you business destiny.
First of all, don’t build around an idea or a product. Those things are impermanent and constantly changing. Simply said; ideas and products come and go, but the marriage to a particular industry stays.
Next, don’t be opportunistic! Opportunities come and go and you might end up doing something you actually have no strength in and/or don’t even like it. Only because it’s an opportunity doesn’t mean that it’s one for you.
Here are 5 question with my own answers. Find the overlapping thing between all of them and you found your business destiny.
